📜 Sect Background

The Kagemoon Sect is the premier blade sect of the Moonrise Empire. For a hundred years, it has produced numerous famous warriors. Its martial system centers on "Battōjutsu" (Quick-draw technique), values settling outcomes in an instant, and emphasizes speed, ruthlessness, and precision. Although "sabers and swords" are held in equal regard within the empire, the essence of the Kagemoon Sect is to "sever the enemy in a flash," following the samurai path of battlefield slaughter and strategic planning.

The founding ancestor, "Getsuei Mumei" (Moonless Shadow), was originally a reclusive swordsman during the chaotic Sengoku period. Legend has it that in a battle of one against fifty, he decapitated the enemy generals within three breaths, making him famous throughout the land. He established the Kagemoon Sect with his extreme-speed blade techniques and allied with the Emperor of the time, making the sect the imperial household’s designated sword school. From then on, the sect held a prestigious status, with successive masters serving as both swordsmen and military advisors.

The headquarters is located in the "Kagemoon Mountain City" in the Moonrise Empire, a strategic stronghold surrounded by clouds and difficult to attack. The entire mountain city is a massive combat formation; it is not only a sacred ground for cultivation but also a blade-formation labyrinth. Every member’s training involves "breaking the formation with the blade and attesting the Dao with the self" within this mountain.

However, the Kagemoon Sect’s glory has not been without its setbacks.

During the era of the fourth master, "Getsuei Kuzō," the Kagemoon Sect originally housed a "Shadow Assassination Group"—the predecessor of the Huoga Sect—which was responsible for imperial assassinations and espionage. Kuzō, however, believed that "swordsmen should face their enemies with righteousness; stealthy assassination brings shame to our sect." He subsequently abolished the group, triggering the sect's first major internal rebellion, the "Great Quick-Draw Strife."

Most of the disciples from the Shadow Assassination Group were expelled. They retreated to the Valley of Shadows and founded the Huoga Sect, swearing that they would one day reclaim their rightful place as the true blade sect. Since then, the Huoga and Kagemoon sects have been as incompatible as fire and water, with a never-ending cycle of assassination, counter-assassination, espionage, and counter-espionage.

Kagemoon swordsmen hold the Huoga Sect’s "Way of the Broken Blade" in contempt, viewing it as a heretical, lowly, and cowardly path. Within the sect, it is often said that "those under the flame are not worthy of clashing blades with us," sneering at the idea that short blades are the "successors of the sword."

By the sixth and seventh generations, the Kagemoon Sect gradually fell under the control of the Shogunate and at one point allied with local Daimyos, becoming heavily involved in politics. The conflict between the "Loyalists" (who believe the sect should remain loyal to the Emperor and accept titles) and the "Free Swordsmen" (who believe the blade should follow the "Dao heart" and that imperial power shouldn't limit cultivation) intensified during this period.

The current 9th master, "Temba Jiro," amazed the entire empire with his quick-draw techniques in his youth. His original technique, "Tsubame Gaeshi" (Swallow Reversal), is hailed as an insurmountable skill—so fast that he can strike an enemy before their own blade even leaves its scabbard. Although he accepts imperial titles, he has repeatedly disobeyed orders to go to war, claiming that "the Kagemoon blade is not driven by the will of others."

His younger sister, "Tsukihime" (Moon Princess), is the youngest supreme swordsman of recent times, known as the "Blade Under the Moon." Her dual-blade Tsubame Gaeshi even surpasses her brother's, but she maintains an ambiguous attitude toward the imperial court and has had private dealings with the "Reform Blade Alliance." The Loyalist faction remains highly vigilant of her, fearing she may become the fuse that splits the sect.

Rumor has it that the sect hides an ancient book called the "Shadow Painting Scroll," which records the tactics and styles of every master since Getsuei Mumei. It is the sect’s highest secret manual. Recent whispers suggest that the "Free Swordsmen" intend to use this book to rebuild the sect’s principles, break free from imperial shackles, and establish the "Kagemoon Freedom Hall," potentially triggering a new internal conflict.

📖 Cultivation System

The Kagemoon cultivation is supported by three pillars: "Battōjutsu," "Blade Tactics," and "Strategic Formations," supplemented by the secret internal art "Moon in Water" and the practical combat methods recorded in the "Shadow Painting Scroll," forming a system that is as aesthetic as it is lethal.

⚔️ Battōjutsu (The Path of Extreme Speed)

  • 🔹 One-Strike Kill: The foundation of Kagemoon; a single draw decides the outcome between life and death.
  • 🔹 Tsubame Gaeshi (Swallow Reversal): The signature technique; an instant follow-up strike after the initial draw, using a two-stage attack to break the enemy's reaction.
  • 🔹 Shadow-Stepping Kill: Combined with high-mobility footwork, delivering a lethal strike while dodging or repositioning.
  • 🔹 Waning Moon Form (Advanced): Inducing an enemy attack with one's posture and instantly counter-striking with a step; residual blade energy can suppress the enemy's breath.

⚔️ Kagemoon Blade Arts (The Peak of Combat Formations)

  • 🔹 Moon-Shadow Flurry: Continuous strikes that dance like afterimages; blade light flows like the moon to confuse the enemy’s eyes.
  • 🔹 Silent Night Blade: A silent quick-draw technique that delivers a strike without a sound, specifically for breaking internal energy shields and heavy armor.
  • 🔹 Shadow-Stream Cleave: Using a feint to lure the enemy, then turning to deliver a strike that breaks defenses and severs meridians.

⚔️ Strategy and Tactics (The Swordsman Strategist)

  • 🔹 Shadow Army Tactics: Kagemoon swordsmen often serve as strategists, proficient in formation deployment and dividing enemy forces.
  • 🔹 Crescent Moon Labyrinth: Creating a false formation using blade momentum, terrain, and deployment to lead the enemy into error.
  • 🔹 Afterimage Line: A high-speed blade formation used by multiple people together; with intersecting blade shadows, the enemy is left with no way to adapt.
  • 🔹 Moon-Sense Shadow Perception: A technique created to counter Huoga's stealth; it allows for the detection of "Fire Escape" and "Phantom Body."

💠 Moon in Water (Internal Heart Method) 🌕

Creed: Control movement with stillness, move with the reflection; the heart is like a water mirror, the blade is like a shadow.

  • 🔹 Perception Flow: The cultivator can instantly sense fluctuations in the enemy's breath and flaws, like a reflection on the water’s surface.
  • 🔹 Reflective Killing: Seeing a flaw in battle and immediately striking its reflection, achieving a state of "striking as soon as the thought arises."
  • 🔹 Traceback Moon: Able to mimic the enemy's movement trajectory, reproducing half the move and counter-striking against it.
  • 🔹 Still-Water Heart (High-Tier): The mind is as calm as still water without a ripple, capable of suppressing emotional fluctuations and mental perceptions to avoid interference from illusions or Huoga heart-methods.

📜 Weapons and Equipment

  • Kagemoon Blade: An extremely lightweight long blade designed specifically for Battōjutsu, with a scabbard designed for ultra-fast draws.
  • Crescent Twin Blades: Ideal for "Tsubame Gaeshi" and continuous strikes, with left and right blades complementing each other.
  • Black Moon Armor: Black light armor that balances mobility with defense.
  • Moon-Reflecting Mirror Shield (Rare): A reflective weapon held by successive masters, used to break illusions or Huoga忍術.

📜 Important Figures

  • 🗡️ Temba Jiro - 9th Generation Master: Reached the peak of Battōjutsu and created his own version of "Tsubame Gaeshi." He serves as both a swordsman and a strategist. Externally loyal to the court, internally harboring a spirit of freedom; he is in quiet opposition to the Loyalist faction.
  • 🗡️ Tsukihime (Moon Princess) - Genius Swordsman: Known as the "Blade Under the Moon" and younger sister to Temba Jiro. She is extremely skilled in Tsubame Gaeshi and dual-blade styles. While gentle on the outside, she is strong within; her loyalty to the Emperor is guarded, and she is rumored to have contacts with the Reform Blade Alliance.
  • 🗡️ Kuroba Soji - Sect Elder: Representative of the Loyalist faction, advocating for complete loyalty to the Shogunate and Emperor. He has monitored Temba Jiro for years and has a personal vendetta against the Huoga Sect.
  • 🗡️ Getsuei Mumei - Founding Ancestor: A legendary figure known as the "Undefeated Ghost of the Quick-Draw." His legacy, the "Shadow Painting Scroll," is listed as a forbidden sect manual.

📜 Sect Heritage and Forbidden Arts

  • 📖 Shadow Painting Scroll (Only for the master and high-level disciples): Records generations of quick-draws, tactics, strategies, and actual combat records. Legend says it can "reflect combat," reconstructing battlefield afterimages. It is the ultimate manual for Kagemoon members.
  • 🌙 Kagemoon Sword Tournament: A sect-wide assembly held every ten years to select future leaders. Winners can study parts of the "Shadow Painting Scroll" and master true formation forms—the threshold for entering the sect's high command.
  • 🌕 Moon-Blade Eye Legend: Legend has it that those who truly understand the Kagemoon path will have silver moon patterns appear in their eyes during battle, symbolizing "extreme blade speed and invisible killing intent," striking fear into all who see it.

📜 External Relations

  • 🔹 👑 Imperial Household: Nominal loyalty but effectively split; Loyalists are commissioned by them, while Free Swordsmen oppose government interference.
  • 🔹 🔥 Huoga Sect: Traitors from the former "Shadow Assassination Group," mortal enemies. Viewed as "lowly smiths under the flame."
  • 🔹 ⚔️ Reform Blade Alliance: Tsukihime is suspected of secret contacts; some Free Swordsmen resonate with the Reform ideology.
  • 🔹 💰 Wealth Sect (Money is God): Distant relationship but with commercial dealings.
  • 🔹 ⚡ Shushan Sect: Different philosophies; the two sects have a history of debate.
  • 🔹 🪓 Storm Sect: Mutual respect for each other's combat extremes. The Storm Sect breaks skill with power, while Kagemoon controls power with speed.
