📜 Background

Thunderbolt Hall is not a traditional martial sect, but the most influential chivalric organization in the Changfeng Republic. It answers to no government and stays out of politics; its mission is to "punish the wicked and protect the common people," and it specifically targets local strongmen, bullies, corrupt officials, and gangs. Thunderbolt Hall enjoys enormous prestige among ordinary people, who see it as their guardian of justice; for many of the oppressed and powerless, Thunderbolt Hall is their last hope.

Its founder, Zhuge Yanwen, comes from a martial family: his father was the renowned hero Shi Zhengyi, and his mother came from a famous martial house. Raised under the influence of both Confucian learning and martial arts, he showed an extraordinary chivalrous spirit from childhood. As a young man he witnessed local officials colluding with gangsters to oppress the people, and so he walked the jianghu under the name "Zhuge Yanwen," robbing the rich to help the poor and upholding justice, until his name rang throughout the martial world.

Years later, he gathered a band of like-minded heroes and secretly founded Thunderbolt Hall in the Changfeng Republic's largest center of commerce and transport. It runs without rigid rules — it takes no formal disciples and has no fixed hierarchy, and anyone determined to uphold justice who does not wish to be bound by a sect's constraints may join.

Zhuge Yanwen's Way of Teaching: Unlike traditional sects, Zhuge Yanwen never holds anything back. He believes "a person of righteous spirit is worthy of being entrusted with supreme arts." So long as a member carries righteousness in their heart and has ability and potential, he teaches them everything he knows, regardless of birth or background. So although Thunderbolt Hall's members come from every walk of life, all of them possess extraordinary skills, and all hold the Hall Master in the highest respect.

⚔️ The Death Struggle Between Thunderbolt Hall and the Fist Gang

On the surface the Changfeng Republic is a democracy, but in the dark, the criminal organization known as the "Fist Gang" controls a vast underground economy, monopolizing the republic's criminal trade through gambling, drugs, protection money, and underground fights. Its leader, Jin Quan, lives by the creed "The fist is power! Fist strength is power!" and has built a criminal empire that respects nothing but the strength of the fist. Countless villains have flocked to the Fist Gang for power, and even some government officials and business consortiums collude with it.

For years Zhuge Yanwen and Thunderbolt Hall have struck at the Fist Gang again and again, dismantling its chains of business and freeing countless commoners forced into slavery, making the Hall the Fist Gang's greatest thorn. Jin Quan has sent assassins and killers more times than can be counted and laid trap upon trap to eliminate Thunderbolt Hall, but Zhuge Yanwen and his companions have seen through them all.

Today Thunderbolt Hall and the Fist Gang are locked in all-out confrontation: Jin Quan has sworn to wipe Thunderbolt Hall out completely, and Zhuge Yanwen is determined to make the Fist Gang vanish from the Changfeng Republic entirely. This clash between light and dark has become one of the most important underground wars in the Changfeng Republic.

🏔️ Geography and Key Locations

Hidden Sword Pavilion: Thunderbolt Hall's headquarters, in the back courtyard of a bookshop in a bustling town of the Changfeng Republic. From the outside it is an ordinary bookstore selling all kinds of martial texts and Confucian classics, but in truth it is where Thunderbolt Hall's members gather and plan their actions. The back courtyard holds a training ground and a secret room storing the intelligence and evidence the Hall has collected over the years.

Clear Breeze Teahouse: Thunderbolt Hall's intelligence exchange, in the heart of the town's market. Its owner is an outer member of the Hall, responsible for gathering street rumors and gang movements. A hidden room on the teahouse's second floor is where Feng Zhi meets her informants.

Hall of Righteousness: Thunderbolt Hall's council chamber, beneath the Hidden Sword Pavilion. A huge plaque hangs in the hall bearing the four characters for "Vast Noble Spirit," written by Zhuge Yanwen's father. Whenever a major action is at hand, Zhuge Yanwen gathers everyone here.

⚔️ Martial Arts of Thunderbolt Hall

Thunderbolt Hall's martial arts are founded on "righteous spirit" — only those who carry justice in their hearts can bring out their full power. Zhuge Yanwen holds that "martial arts are neither righteous nor evil; if the one who uses them has an upright heart, the art is upright, and if the heart is evil, the art is evil." So when he teaches, he looks not at talent but at character.

Growth in skill is growth itself — in Thunderbolt Hall, martial arts advance not only through hard training but through the practice of "upholding justice." With every commoner helped and every bully punished, righteous spirit grows a little, and one's martial skill rises a level.

🔑 Three Signature Mechanics of the Sect

Righteousness Counters Evil: After exerting "Nurturing Qi," damage against evil sects, demons, and lost souls rises sharply; the sword and palm arts also have killing moves aimed specifically at evil beings, dealing a further fifty percent damage to them. Slaying evil and rooting out wickedness is Thunderbolt Hall's duty.

Thunder Means Overawing, Not Elemental Lightning: This sect's "thunder" is the force of a thunderous presence — a stun that briefly leaves the enemy dazed and unable to act, not spell-cast lightning. It is deliberately distinct from Shushan (Taoist heavenly thunder) and the Storm Thunder Sect (elemental thunder); Thunderbolt Hall's thunder is the might of the Vast Noble Spirit, not a celestial spell.

Righteousness and Evil in Accord: The power of the Vast Noble Spirit is tied to the practitioner's "righteousness value" — for the greatest heroes, righteous spirit is vast and its power doubled; for those whose intentions are crooked, righteous spirit is hard to gather and its power greatly reduced; and those sunk deep in the evil path who force themselves to train it risk backlash.

Team Battle Support: This sect is built for team combat, not as a pure damage-dealing sect. The spear art includes techniques for rescuing companions and drawing enemy attention to protect the formation; its strength lies in guarding comrades, supporting those in danger, and buying breathing room for fellow fighters.

📖 I. Vast Noble Spirit (Inner Art · the Foundation of the Hall, created by Zhuge Yanwen)

The foundational inner art, the root of every sword, palm, and spear art. Three stages: Nurturing Qi → Circulating Qi → Peerless Righteousness (only Zhuge Yanwen has ever reached Peerless Righteousness). In combat it provides passive damage reduction, plus three active exertions:

Nurturing Qi: When exerted, reduces damage taken all over the body; for its duration, damage against evil sects, demons, and lost souls rises sharply (the core of countering evil).

Noble Renewal: Instantly restores health (amount = righteous spirit level × 5), while purifying poison and curse effects.

Noble Focus: Instantly restores spirit (amount = level × 3), and for a short time halves damage from spells and talismans (a magic-resistance effect).

Evil Break: Vast Noble Spirit pours into the sword, and golden light cuts the enemy, severing their inner breath. It deals a further fifty percent damage to evil sects, demons, and lost souls.

A nimble lightness skill of pure evasion that avoids strength and strikes at emptiness, raising one's chance to dodge, with no killing moves of its own. Three stages: Swift Wind, No Shadow → Thunder Shadow (afterimages that confuse the enemy; Feng Zhi has reached this stage) → Cloud Treading (reached by Zhuge Yanwen; legend says one can walk upon the clouds).

Soul-Chasing Shadow Bind: The soft whip binds the enemy's legs, holding them in place — for a period the target cannot move or flee (though they can still fight back). The key to capturing someone alive.

Startling Thunder Crack: The whip cracks through the air like a thunderbolt, its sound shaking the enemy's eardrums and spirit; anyone struck is briefly dazed and unable to act (overawed).

📜 Key Figures

Hall Master | Zhuge Yanwen

The founder and leader of Thunderbolt Hall, about fifty, lean-faced, with eyes like lightning and a gentle, refined manner — he looks more like a scholar than a fighter. He comes from a martial family: his father was the renowned hero Shi Zhengyi and his mother came from a famous martial house, and from childhood he was steeped in both Confucian learning and martial arts.

Zhuge Yanwen's martial cultivation is extraordinarily high; four of the six arts have reached their peak in him — his "Vast Noble Spirit" has reached "Peerless Righteousness" (the only one in the Hall), he has mastered every killing move of the "Sky Buddha Sword Art" and the "Sky Buddha Palm," and his "Ten-Thousand-Mile Step" has reached "Cloud Treading." He is hailed as the "First Hero of the Western Sea," deeply respected by the righteous martial world and idolized by the people of the Changfeng Republic.

Zhuge Yanwen is upright and incorruptible, calm by nature, and never holds anything back. He often tells his disciples: "Martial arts are neither righteous nor evil; if the one who uses them has an upright heart, the art is upright, and if the heart is evil, the art is evil. I pass supreme arts to you not because you have great talent, but because your heart is upright." Everyone in Thunderbolt Hall respects him deeply and calls him simply "Hall Master."

Deputy Hall Master | Chen Lingyun

Zhuge Yanwen's friend through life and death, about forty, powerfully built and rugged-faced, wielding a silver spear that no one can match on the battlefield. He has mastered all three forms of the "Yide Spear Style" and leads Thunderbolt Hall's military operations, specializing in fighting bullies and criminal gangs.

Chen Lingyun is hearty and hates evil like an enemy; with Zhuge Yanwen as the scholar and himself as the warrior, the two complement each other perfectly. He often says: "Yanwen's sword is upright, and so is my spear. There's more than one way to walk the righteous path."

Intelligence Chief | Feng Zhi

Thunderbolt Hall's intelligence chief, about thirty, slender, with delicate features and movement as fast as a gale. She excels at the "Ten-Thousand-Mile Step," having reached the stage of "Thunder Shadow," with exceptional stealth; she has also mastered all three forms of her personal supreme art, the "Startling Thunder Whip," skilled at using the whip to entangle, seize weapons, and bind enemies alive, in keeping with her work of tracking, scouting, and taking prisoners for questioning. She is in charge of all of Thunderbolt Hall's intelligence gathering and can slip into an enemy camp without a sound.

Feng Zhi was once a street orphan; after Zhuge Yanwen took her in, he taught her lightness skill and intelligence work. She holds Zhuge Yanwen in the highest respect and once said: "The Hall Master gave me a second life, and I will spend that life running for the righteous path."

📜 Relations with Other Factions

Fist Gang: Sworn enemies. The Fist Gang is the most powerful criminal organization in the Changfeng Republic, controlling the underground economy and locked in all-out confrontation with Thunderbolt Hall. Its leader, Jin Quan, regards Thunderbolt Hall as "a thorn in his eye and a splinter in his flesh," and has sent assassins and killers many times to eliminate Zhuge Yanwen, all of them thwarted. Zhuge Yanwen, for his part, has sworn to "make the Fist Gang vanish from the Changfeng Republic entirely."

Changfeng Republic Government: A complicated relationship. Some local officials quietly support Thunderbolt Hall, regarding it as "the people's guardian"; another group of corrupt officials sees the Hall as a thorn in their side, since it has exposed their corruption many times. Zhuge Yanwen's position: "We are not against the government. We are against corrupt officials and bullies."

Mountain and Sea Society: A delicate balance. The Mountain and Sea Society is the leading underground power in the Changfeng Republic, and has both clashed and cooperated with Thunderbolt Hall. The two share a common interest in "striking at the Fist Gang" — the Fist Gang's growth threatens the Society's business. But Thunderbolt Hall's "upholding of justice" also sometimes cuts into the Society's interests. Jin Qiye and Zhuge Yanwen once held a secret meeting and reached a tacit understanding of "mutual non-aggression and shared intelligence."

Commercial Republic: Some merchants quietly support Thunderbolt Hall, seeing it as "a force that upholds commercial order"; but some wealthy merchants worry that the Hall's "robbing the rich to help the poor" is too radical and will hurt their own interests. The Faceless Theater Troupe has no direct dealings with Thunderbolt Hall, but occasionally sells it intelligence on the Fist Gang through middlemen.

Shushan Sect: Allies. The Shushan Sect and Thunderbolt Hall both walk the righteous path, and have worked together many times to slay demons and strike at evil. Bai Mei, the White-Eyebrow Master, once publicly praised Zhuge Yanwen: "The greatest of heroes serves the nation and the people." Zhuge Yanwen replied: "Shushan slays demons, Thunderbolt roots out evil — different paths to the same end."

Wuxiang Temple: Allies. Wuxiang Temple and Thunderbolt Hall share similar ideals — both hold to "protecting all living beings through the righteous path." Master Duchen once invited Zhuge Yanwen to lecture at Wuxiang Temple, and the two had a most congenial conversation. Though Xuanbei has reservations about the Hall's "disregard for rigid rules," he also admits that "Zhuge Yanwen is a true hero."

Holy Academy: Allies. The Holy Academy and Thunderbolt Hall are closely aligned in their ideal of "governing the nation through Confucianism, protecting the people through chivalry." The Academy's headmaster once gave Zhuge Yanwen a scroll bearing the four characters for "Vast Noble Spirit," which still hangs in the Hall of Righteousness today.

Liaoyuan Spear Fort: Mutual admiration. Though one guards the sea frontier and the other is in an island nation, the Liaoyuan Spear Fort and Thunderbolt Hall are both forces that "fight for the righteous path." Yan Wugui once sent a letter to Zhuge Yanwen with only four words written in it: "Heroes share one heart." Zhuge Yanwen's reply was also only four words: "The righteous walk together."
