Novel Synopsis

During the Hongde era of the Shuntian Dynasty, the imperial court is corrupt, border conflicts rage, and warlords rise amidst chaos.

The story begins in Linhai City of Qingzhou, on the shores of the Eastern Sea. On a snowy winter night, Magistrate Chen Hui stands before the granary, his dark blue official robe soaked with snow. Using an abacus and a judge's brush, he coordinates disaster relief with a calm and unquestionable voice. He is more than just a scholar adept in mathematics—the "Luoshu Bead" hanging from his waist is the highest honor of the Holy Scholar Academy, worn only by those who have mastered the Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art. His inner strength is enough to shatter steel blades in an instant. A perfect blend of martial prowess and intellect, he is the unwavering pillar of the region.

However, dark undercurrents stir in the snowy night. Ronin from the Moonrise Empire lurk among the rioters to cause trouble, while the shadows of the Kaga Clan flash across the rooftops. Amidst the chaos, a figure in moonlight white leaps lightly across the roofs without leaving a trace in the snow. Using calculating chips from her "Exquisite Calculation Box," she precisely shatters a ronin's blade before vanishing into the night. That is Lin Wanying. She is a disciple of the Shushan Sect, and the sole survivor of the annihilated Qingzhou Lin family—a lineage of mathematical masters. Her master ordered her to investigate and assassinate Chen Hui on the grounds of "colluding with wokou (pirates)." Yet, what her eyes witness is a man fighting desperately in the snowstorm to protect his people, not a villain.

Rising Wind and Thunder is a long-form epic grounded in a wuxia (martial arts) world, utilizing mathematics and mechanisms as unique narrative threads. The two protagonists' encounter begins from opposing sides: one is a loyal and righteous magistrate secretly suspected by the Shushan sect, the other is a female warrior trained in both swordsmanship and mathematics ordered to monitor him. They team up by the cracked riverbank to solve puzzles using the Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art, activating the iron ox mechanism to raise the dam and protect the people of Qingzhou. Amidst the raging flames of the Wenmo Pavilion, Lin Wanying uses the "Pythagorean theorem" to calculate the stress points of a stone wall, breaking through to save Chen Hui, who had risked his life. Through successive overlapping crises and unspoken mutual understanding, the two gradually shift from adversaries to each other's most trusted confidants.

The story is set in a fictional "Fantasy World" divided into four major factions: the Shuntian Dynasty, Moonrise Empire, Changfeng Republic, and Commercial Republic. Various sects harbor their own sinister plots in the chaos: the Shushan Sect is steeped in immortal aura but governed by strict rules; the Pirate King Alliance roams the Eastern Sea like fierce wolves; the "Wealth God Sect" of the Commercial Republic uses wealth as a weapon to manipulate intelligence across the realm; and the Thunderbolt Hall's explosive skills strike fear into the hearts of many. All hidden threads will eventually converge on the "Mystery of Wind and Thunder"—an underground palace secretly built by top mathematicians and craftsmen of the previous dynasty, sealing knowledge and power capable of shaking the world order.

The entire book is currently divided into four volumes, each forming its own chapter yet interlocking with the others:

  • Volume 1: Awakening of Destiny: On a snowy night in Qingzhou, Chen Hui uses mathematics to protect the people, Lin Wanying transforms from an assassin into an ally, and the Mystery of Wind and Thunder begins to show its clues.
  • Volume 2: Incalculable Loyalty: All factions make their appearance, and the struggle between martial world loyalties and courtly schemes tests everyone's choices and bottom lines.
  • Volume 3: Hidden Dragon in the Abyss: Foreshadowing runs deep, as the protagonists lurk and build their strength in the dark undercurrents, waiting for the true moment of wind and thunder to erupt.
  • Volume 4: Thunder Shakes the Sea: The story moves to the vast ocean, the former hidden dragon begins to leave a name in the martial world and the court, and the real storm has just begun.

This is a world born from LPMUD game code, spanning from mathematical puzzles to sword flight, from political maneuvering inspired by the Three Kingdoms to maritime legends inspired by Caribbean pirates—every page is an earnest outpouring of the author's years-long wuxia dream.
